Heroes of the week

Dry spell for our Italian goalscorers this week. A great performance in net however down in the Turkish league: let’s check that out.

The name of Morgan De Sanctis shouldn’t be completely unfamiliar to most you. After all, he is the vice-Buffon-vice-Amelia (ok, 3rd choice) goalkeeper for the Azzurri, and featured prominently in the ranks of Udinese during the years 1999 to 2007. A lot has happened though since the lad moved away of the Italian peninsula: an unlucky spell at Sevilla (playing reserve for Andrés Palop, De Sanctis featured in only 8 games for the Rojiblancos) was followed with a loan to Turkish club Galatasaray in 2008, a team for which Morgan hoped to resume starting eleven duties.

Since his arrival in the ex-Turkish capital, De Sanctis has really flourished: greeted like a saviour by CimBom fans, the Italian keeper has been in prime form lately and culminated a string of very good performances with some capital saves this week-end. Battling against Bursaspor, the Istanbul club snatched a 2-1 victory which keeps them in the battle for the title. If Galatasaray are only 3 points away from league leaders Sivasspor in the Turkcell Süper Lig, they have a lot to owe to our Azzurri nº3.
