Italian Players Around the World (4/02)

Continuing my weekly article inspired by Gazzetta dello Sport, here are the performances of all Italian soccer players operating in foreign European leagues.

Luca Toni scores the 2-0 for Bayern, in the match against Hansa Rostock.

Based on Gazzetta’s info, there are currently 22 Italians playing in first divisions abroad, and 12 of them stepped on the field this week-end.

The table below includes the team the player belongs to, their opponents for the week, the number of minutes they played, their contribution (goal, assist), and the final score of the game.

Giuseppe Rossi celebrates after his goal against Mallorca

Heroes of the week

This week two goalscorers. For those who’ve been reading this column for a while now, it’s the “Usual Suspects” as always.

In fact, the German Bundesliga hasn’t even had time to resume from its Winter break, that Luca Toni has already been hitting the headlines. Scoring in the recent Bayern German cup match last week, the ex-Fiorentina striker went on the scoreboard this week-end also, in the match vs. Hansa Rostock.

As for our Spain hero, can Giuseppe Rossi‘s reliability get any higher? For 3 weeks now he’s either provided assists or goals for the Yellow Submarine (this week-end, he produced Villareal’s temporary 1-0 lead from a penalty shot). Too bad his team coulndn’t get past a draw in their home game vs. Mallorca.

A bit of glory for Massimo Donati as well, author of the assist for Caldwell’s 2-0 tally in Celtic’s abundant win over Kilmarnock.
