Heroes of the week
In a week where the Rossis blank out against Espanyol, the Tonis get injured against Karlsruhe, and the Marescas do their usual useful work (but not much more), wing-backs get full attention.
Let’s start in Germany, where Massimo Oddo has slowly been conquering a starter spot in that Bayern right-back position. It kinda helps that the club’s recent performances have been, well… terrible (which kinda forced Klismann to re-evaluate his entire roster). However, the ex-Lazio and Milan player been dishing out consistent quality lately, and was actually the assist-provider for Klose’s game-winning-goal this week-end against Karlsruhe. A vital win for the German giants, who can stick the head out of the water and take a breather.
Now let’s move over to France, where a certain 2006 World Cup hero has been sitting off on the sidelines for quite some time now. Well, Fabio Grosso couldn’t have picked a better time to return from his injury, because he provided a vital equalizing goal for Lyon as they hosted Lille in a tough Saturday encounter. It was a pretty nice goal too: a lovely left-footed volley on a Juninho Pernambucano corner-kick, not too powerful but precise in execution. Vive l’Italie!
