Anyways, it’s easy to bash Beckham’s move from a football career point-of-view. But maybe there were also other factors he considered. Maybe he wanted to live in the States for a while, maybe Tom Cruise convinced him that LA is a great city. Maybe his wife got tired of Spain and wanted the Hollywood glamour. And the fact that he was getting benched at Real Madrid (at the time he decided to transfer to MLS) probably didn’t help either.

Plus he’s getting a sh**load of money.

The bottom line is: sure, he could have transfered to a minor EPL club instead, but this has been debated over and over. He probably wouldn’t have wanted to play for a club other than Man Utd, and they most likely wouldn’t have taken him anyway. So why not go somewhere else and help football develop in the USA?

Becks is a coward running away from real football.. even players like Vieri are giving it a shot in good leagues.

To some extent I agree with you, Becks could have played at least another couple of years at Real, and then moved on to a lower caliber club for the end of his career.

However, he got seduced by the MLS offer (probably a great of money involved too) and now has the chance to bring much needed attention and media coverage to a franchise which has been struggling to expand… From MLS’s and Galaxy’s point of view this is obviously a great deal, but for Beckham? Well, he’s committed for 5 years, and from what he said in his post-transfer interviews he seemed to really believe in the project. So as long as he’s happy…

We can only sit back and see where this will all lead to.

He probably won’t bring salvation to LA’s MLS season (given the situation they’re in), but he might prove decisive to bring home the Super Liga…
