Inter 3-0 Reggina: Easy Peasy… Zlatanesey (Serie A Matchday 29)

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

See what I did there? Feel free to use that in future Inter victories (sounds a bit better than “japanesey” or “lemon-squeezy”, no?). For there are few words more appropriate than “piece of cake” to define the Nerazzurri’s victory over Reggina Sunday. Juventus thought that by keeping the pressure on their rivals, Mourinho’s boys were going to slip up… eventually. Ibrahimovic thought otherwise.

Inter’s third goal, a marvelous left-footed chip over the keeper after a double dribble by Zlatan, epitomizes the ease and facility with which this team is playing domestically at the moment: one can only wonder how on Earth they could not translate Serie A domination into European success (especially with Man utd losing against teams like Fulham this past week-end). And the stats speak loud & clear: 10th match without a loss, 7th consecutive game ended with a +2 goal margin. Those who criticized Mourinho for non-spectacular playing style are keeping quiet.

Reggina on the other hand, and their hopes for avoiding relegation, are looking grim: Nevio Orlandi’s team has not managed to win since the end of November…

Serie A Matchday 29 Preview: Roma and Juventus Set for Stadio Olimpico Showdown

It is getting close to crunch time for a few Serie A sides and if anyone wants to catch Inter Milan they’re going to have to get a run together now. Inter won’t be dropping any points this weekend unless something drastic happens though, they face bottom club Reggina at the Giuseppe Meazza and I don’t think anyone would predict anything other than a victory for the Nerazzurri. I’ve had a run through some of the key fixtures to see if I can offer any betting tips and advice along the way.

Milan 1-1 Reggina: Not Even Beckham Can Save Milan as Amaranto Create Stupor (Serie A Matchday 23)

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

The build-up to the Derby della Madonnina next week-end could not have taken a worse turn for the Rossoneri. Well, in truth Milan could have lost today, that would have probably been worse. But in a night of creativity draught and already fairly damaged back-lines, the prospect of playing against Inter without Kaká (injured) and Bonera (suspended) must not bring happy thoughts to Carlo Ancelotti. Not even if Galliani announces Beckham is dumping the Galaxy this week.

As for Reggina, what can you say about a team who in the span of two weeks managed to steal a point first from AS Roma and then AC Milan? Maybe that their relegation battle isn’t a lost cause.

Juventus 4-0 Reggina: Saint Bernards Needed in Turin… (Serie A Matchday 14)

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

There was one hell of a snowstorm in Northern Italy Saturday, and rescue operations are undergoing at Turin’s Stadio Olimpico. It seems that many Reggina players are still buried under the snow, something which down in Calabria they evidently don’t get to see a lot of. The same cannot be said for Juventus, who welcomed the powdery weather with open arms and proceeded to put an avalanche of goals past their Amaranto opponents.

The match was also particularly sweet for Alessandro Del Piero, who thanks to his 72nd minute penalty-kick achieved a total of 250 goals with Juventus. An historic milestone for the Bianconeri captain, and a great night for Juventus who after their 1-0 loss to Inter last week-end, get right back on track for the Scudetto race.

Fiorentina 3-0 Reggina: Viola on Cruise-Control, Gilardino Can’t Stop Scoring… Even From the Subs Bench (Serie A Matchday 7)

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Chalk up the third consecutive Serie A win for Fiorentina. There was nothing earth-shattering in La Viola’s performance against Reggina tonight, but on day of mourning for the upper management (Maria Della Valle, mother of Diego & Andrea, passed away earlier this week) the brother-presidents will be satisfied to see their team is steadily cruising towards a good very good Serie A season.

Prandelli was rotating his team tonight, yet his boys played a calm game, in control (even during the -rare- offensive assaults of their opponents) and didn’t succumb to frustration when the ball refused to enter the net. What better way to prepare for Tuesday’s upcoming match against Bayern Munich (at Allianz Arena, for which Luca Toni is in doubt).

As for Alberto Gilardino, well… numbers speak for themselves. 18 minutes played, two goals. This team really can’t do without him.
