UEFA Champions League

The draw for the Quarter-Finals of the UEFA Champions League took place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, today at 12:00 CET (I liveblogged the event on Soccerlens).

No Serie A teams were involved alas, and most of us will be watching the next rounds sighing in sadness and regret. Yup. No Juve, no Inter, no Roma… sad sad sad. But while we cry, there’s no reason not to enjoy the best football action European football still has to offer.

I’ll try to make a more elaborate analysis later in the day, but for now here are the draw results.

UEFA Champions League

The draw for the 1st knockout round (Round of 16) of the UEFA Champions League took place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, today at 12:00 CET (I liveblogged the event on Soccerlens). And boy oh boy, are there some good games comin’ up.

As far as Italian teams go, Inter, Juventus, and Roma didn’t exactly pick the easiest games of the lot. Quite the opposite in fact. And to make matters worse, lady luck bad luck gave them the scourge of Italian teams in the last decade, namely… Premier League clubs!

Bayern Munich 2007-08 Jersey (REVIEW)

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Ahh Germany. The land of the great Nationalmannschaft, the team with such glorious World Cup and Euro Cup history (six trophies collectively) and who almost increased their collection by one in June, had it not been for the Spanish Armada and a certain Fernando Torres.

Germany is also the homeland of prestigious club teams such as Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, and of course, Bayern Munich. Which brings me to talk to you about SoccerPro‘s latest soccer article I’ve had the pleasure to test: the Bayern Munich 2007-08 Jersey.

Bayern Munich 3-0 Fiorentina: Viola Doing the Shooting… But Not the Scoring (UEFA Champions League 2008-09)

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

If there’s one thing that Tuesday night taught Fiorentina, it’s that by having 22 shots on target and still failing to score against Bayern Munich, you will at some point get punished. The German giants might very well be struggling in the Bundesliga at the moment, they are still a team loaded with world class players who this evening made full use of their superiority with regards to experience and cynicism.

Midway into the UCL group stage, things are now looking very difficult for Prandelli’s boys, stuck into third spot 3 points behind Lyon and 5 behind Bayern. The road leading to the playoff round has just transformed into a rocky, slippery, icy mountain path.

Bayern Running Out of Wins, Not Out of Beer…

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Things are NOT going well for Bayern Munich lately. The team has been winless in a serious competition (I’m not counting the DFB Cup) since September 17, and this week-end’s 3-3 draw vs. Bochum at the Allianz Arena certainly didn’t improve things with the supporters.

Fortunately however, Die Roten can drown their sorrows at the Oktoberfest.
