Italian Players Around the World (16/09)

Continuing my weekly article inspired by Gazzetta dello Sport, here are the performances of all Italian players operating in foreign European leagues.

Massimo Donati scores again for HoopsWhen Toni doesn’t score, Klose takes care of business. The Italian striker’s header was at the origin of Klose’s equalizing goal vs. Schalke Saturday

Based on Gazzetta’s info, there are currently 24 Italians playing in first divisions abroad, and 16 of them stepped on the field this week-end.

The table below includes the team the player belongs to, their opponents for the week, the number of minutes they played, their contribution (goal, assist), and the final score of the game.

Today’s hero of the week: Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati, who has become an irreplaceable piece in manager Gordon Strachan’s chessboard. The Italian scored yet another goal this week in the 5-0 home win to Inverness, and hopefully there will be more where that came from in the Champions’ League (where Celtic are in AC Milan’s group).

Meanwhile, ex-Livorno striker Cristiano Lucarelli upped his goal total in the Ukrainian league (a transformed penalty shot which puts Shakhtar Donetsk at 1st spot in the rankings), while goalkeeper Flavio Roma had an unlucky return from injury, as his team Monaco lost an home clash to rivals PSG.

    1. Serja says:

I’ve been watching some of the Celtic highlights on FSC, and this week’s Donati goal was pretty good. Great ball control, dribbling and good marksmanship from a difficult angle.

Nakamura’s goal was even better though:

    2. Eheh Serja. Both goals were pretty good indeed.
