Heroes of the week

This week only one goalscorer. Also one assistman. Both from Spain.

Giuseppe Rossi‘s officially back. His return last week didn’t go too well for Villareal, but Sunday’s game was a whole other matter. Indeed, Rossi’s first half goal from the spot spearheaded the Yellow Submarine‘s victory vs. Deportivo. Rossi came off in the 73rd minute, after a good performance.

Two other players worth mentioning this week: Gianluca Zambrotta (who finally got to play a full 90 minutes and provided the assist for Gudjohnsen’s game-winning goal vs. Murcia) and Christian Abbiati (it might be a coincidence, but since the Italian keeper has become a regular feature with Atletico Madrid, due to the Leo Franco’s injury, the Rojiblancos have lost only 1 game out of 9), authors of excellent performances this week-end.

To be noted that after Marco Storari, due to Levante’s inability to pay agreed wages Bruno Cirillo also left the Spanish club. He will be joining Reggina, the club where he grew as a player.

Also, Cristiano Lucarelli left Ukrainian side of Shakhtar Donetsk and has joined Parma over the Winter break, the motivation behind the move being that Lucarelli hopes to earn a ticket to Euro 2008 with Italy. The fact the Ukrainian club is out of the Champions League and will not resume its league until March, would have virtually shut the Azzurri doors for Lucarelli had he stayed in Kiev.
