As per his usual custom, Donadoni declared that he would not reveal his plans until the very last moment: “You know very well that all doubts concerning my starting eleven formation are lifted only in the morning before the game. After the final practice, I’ll make my formation”. However, according to the Italian newspaper, his comments on Luca Toni seem to reveal that the FC Bayern striker will have to miss out on the big clash of the titans.
“You would like to know about Luca toni? In the last few days he always trained separately from the rest of the group, even though yesterday he showed notable progress”. In other words, the return of ex-Fiorentina player might have to be in the game against Ukraine Wednesday, Pippo Inzaghi can start warming up, Gazzetta wrote. The coach also had a few words about Mauro Camoranesi, a very clear & explicit “I hope he has a full 90 minutes in his legs”. Again, according to the Italian newspaper, this would entail Donadoni to use a modified 4-1-4-1 formation. I guess it would look something like this:
“I have many certainties” Donadoni continued, “let this be clear; we have worked well, because we know we will be facing a team of great magnitude. Defining it the most important match a year from now? All games are important, even though I realize the French must be confronted with particular concentration”.
Regarding France and who will be starting in Les Bleus‘ squad, Donadoni is once again quite enigmatic: “I don’t know who’ll play (note: Gallas is most certainly out), but France has got so many good players in their roster that we should be equally worried. I hope to receive the full support of the San Siro stadium, because I know all the tickets have been sold out: obviously everyone wants to be there for a very great show”
The Italian coach also talked about differences between this match and the first leg in Paris (played in September 2006): “Differences? Last year we started the season with much greater difficulty, we were late in physical fitness. Today there is more cohesion, new players have aggregated to the World Champions group and our desire to go all the way is very high”. Aye Roberto, the first step for that would be beating France for instance.
Edit: The latest Gazzetta update on practice tests have shown that it might be De Rossi instead of Ambrosini in the starting line-up. In addition, the utilization of Del Piero is more and more certain.
