After the mid-week disaster against the first of the Genoan teams, Mourinho’s Inter Milan picked things up against the second Saturday, defeating Genoa 2-0 and consolidating their lead atop Serie A standings.

It was a welcome win too for the Nerazzurri, who after their 3-3 draw to Roma and 3-0 loss to Sampdoria can now prepare their visit to Old Trafford with more tranquillity (injuries of Materazzi & Burdisso excepted). Of course, no Inter win this year would be complete without the traditional controversy, and Saturday’s encounter didn’t fail to provide one. Indeed, serious doubts remain on the validity of Balotelli’s 2-0 tally: fully over the line or not?

Roma 1-1 Udinese: As the Olimpico Awaits Arsenal, Giallorossi Saved by Vucinic (Serie A Matchday 27)

Roma 1-1 Udinese: As the Olimpico Awaits Arsenal, Giallorossi Saved by Vucinic (Serie A Matchday 27)

After a week of steamy press release rants, counter-declarations, suspensions, and controversy (all stemming from last Sunday’s 3-3 affair), Roma could not do better than a 1-1 home draw to Udinese Saturday. A result not doing much good for either team, and which certainly doesn’t help the Giallorossi’s morale in light of their upcoming UCL match vs. Arsenal. With Daniele De Rossi suspended, Totti in iffy condition, and David Pizarro just joining the injury list, Luciano Spalletti will have some serious tactical thinking to do before Tuesday.

The upside for the Romans? Mirko Vucinic. The Montenegrin striker came on for Menez in the 58th and went on the scoreboard just 3 minutes later, tying the game for a valuable point. It’s the kind of scoring efficiency Roma will need against Arsenal, hoping that the stream of dubious refereeing decisions surrounding them will come to an end.

Serie A Preview: AC Milan vs. Atalanta

Serie A: AC Milan vs. Atalanta

As another Serie A week-end draws near, AC Milan vs. Atalanta could very well be David Beckham‘s last game for the Rossoneri, and I for one will be sad to see him leave Italian football. Milan might not have been great over the past few weeks or so, but for me Beckham has added to the Milan side considerably and would probably continue to flourish in Italian football. If it doesn’t happen now it could happen in November anyway when his contract at LA Galaxy runs out (there are speculations Milan is waiting to do just that: snatch the player on a free transfer for January 2010) so even if he does return we may not have seen the last of the former England captain.
